Transitional style is more than just a mashup of styles, it is a union of traditional and contemporary furniture, finishes, materials, and textures. This decor is a meshing of modern and traditional elements. But this is not to mean just an in-between or hybrid style, but rather a proper decor all its own. A subtle mixture combining two styles into one, blending the two into a cohesive decor that is sophisticated, yet feels clean and modern.
The two most commonplace decor styles are Traditional and Modern, however, these can begin to feel a bit dated to the modern homeowner. These styles can be too rigid with style definitions, which is where Transitional comes in. There’s more liberty to be had with transitional home decor since you can experiment until the mix feels right for you. That is why this style is so popular with Millennials, it encourages a sense of personalization. There is a limit however, this is not eclectic decor, moreso a bridge between classic and modern, a new take on traditional decor.

Utilize your grandmother's antique furniture with modern light fixtures and end tables. If you have traditional style built-in furniture such as kitchen cabinets, accessorize them with modern touches like updated hardware.
Larger furniture pieces such as sofas should have straight lines or rounded edges. Use neutral colors on walls and furniture, however, use different types of fabrics to add a personalized touch and break up any monochromatic spaces. Use color in your accessories (i.e. gold frame for a painting, sky blue flower vase, metallic end table, etc.) Not too much accessorizing, rather, the decor is only lightly adorned with accessories, at the end of the day you should still be left with a clean room with added texture and a neutral color palette.

Choose an impactful statement piece - Less is more, so use these pieces sparingly. A large art piece or a vintage piece of furniture will do the trick.
